Networks & Connectivity
Design, optimisation and ongoing management of the network layer — including the wireless and remote access that a mobile-first workforce depends on entirely.
Networks are the first thing blamed and the last thing documented. In most environments we inherit, the topology diagram is years out of date, the firewall has rules nobody will admit to writing, and wireless coverage was designed for a floor plan that has since changed twice.
CDTS designs, optimises and manages the network layer with a specific bias: the fleet is mobile, so wireless, remote access and per-app connectivity matter more than they did when everyone sat at a desk.
We work vendor-neutral at the design stage and will recommend against replacing equipment that is doing its job.
Scope of the service
The components we deliver and operate under this service. Scope is agreed per engagement — this is the standard shape.
Network design & architecture
LAN, WAN and segmentation design, documented properly, with a topology that matches what is actually installed.
Wireless design & optimisation
Wireless surveys, capacity planning and tuning for environments where devices are the primary endpoint.
Firewall & edge security
Firewall deployment, rule base review and cleanup, and edge policy that reflects current business need.
Remote & per-app access
VPN, per-app VPN and Zero Trust network access designed around managed devices and verified identity.
Network monitoring
Performance and availability monitoring with alerting into the managed service desk.
Carrier & circuit management
Circuit procurement, carrier escalation and mobile plan management, handled on your behalf.
Common questions
Do we have to replace our existing network hardware?
Not unless there is a reason. We work vendor-neutral at the design stage and will recommend against replacing equipment that is doing its job. Where hardware genuinely is the constraint, we will show you the evidence rather than the brochure.
Our wireless drops out when the office is full. Is that fixable?
Yes, and it is rarely a hardware fault. It is usually a capacity and channel planning problem — a network designed for a floor plan that has since changed, or for laptops rather than a room full of tablets. A wireless survey establishes what is actually happening before anyone buys anything.
Can you review a firewall rule base we inherited?
That is one of our more common engagements. Most inherited rule bases contain rules nobody will admit to writing. We document what each rule does, what breaks if it is removed, and give you a staged cleanup plan.
Do you manage carrier and mobile plans as well?
Yes. Circuit procurement, carrier escalation and mobile plan management can sit inside the managed service, so your team stops chasing reference numbers.
What we have written about this
Wi-Fi problems are usually density problems
Adding access points to fix a slow network usually makes it slower. What is actually wrong is almost always capacity, channel planning or backhaul.
Designing a network for a site nobody visits
Remote and unattended sites break the assumptions of office network design. What matters is not throughput — it is what happens when something fails at 2am.
